Our Lady of Vladimir

$80

The Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God is one of the oldest and most venerated miraculous icons in the Russian Orthodox Church. In Ukraine, it is honored as the Vyshhorod Icon of the Mother of God. This icon follows the Eleusa (“Tender Mercy”) style, depicting the Virgin Mary with Christ in an intimate, loving embrace. The original icon is housed in the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow and is displayed in a dedicated chapel within the museum.

The Vladimir icon of the Mother of God was painted in Constantinople in the early 12th century and brought to Kyiv, then to Vladimir and, in 1395, to Moscow. It is the classic image of the Virgin of Tenderness (Eleousa): the Child presses his cheek to his Mother’s, and her gaze turns to us. The original is in the State Tretyakov Gallery. Main feast: August 26 (September 8).

UV-printed on a solid ash panel, 5.9 × 4.7 in, with a micro-relief surface and a gold-leaf-textured background; the varnish gives a finish close to hand-painted tempera. Comes with a stand for a shelf or prayer corner.
